So, with one day to finish artwork and another to stick this all together, I'm finalising the artwork for the fourth piece digitally... that was always my intention, so I'm ok with it. I have a different experience with the digital media, so I have tended to put it off until now. I still get results, just probably not entirely the ones I'm wanting. That aside, the results are coming together wonderfully and I couldn't be happier.
With a concept in my head, and a small drawing, I'm off to print all the pieces for mounting on board. The space itself is a glass cabinet, so I can have a little play with papers to see which paper is going to print well and hold the images upright for two months.
Test printing and mount-board time...
Working away... that's me... I'm enjoying seeing this through from beginning to end. I have four days to finish this... on the weekend, I managed to get a fair way through the watercolour work. And the final piece I've decided to do digitally. I figured this would be a great way to show a variety in styles.
This will be my first of five quick projects. During November, I'm going to continue this weekly projects idea, to get working on a few portfolio pieces and to improve my watercolour/gouache techniques.... this month is ink month, next month is watercolour project month! Hang in there :)
After a whirlwind trip around Planet Earth, the Zneldon's will be making one last stop - Australia!
Each millenium, the Zneldons - Zneeloks from Planet 'Z' - travel to a new destination and this year it's been to Earth. How exciting for them... I can't wait to receive a message of their arrival in Aus and to hear their travel stories of where they've been. Little Betty Zneldon, is very good at keeping souvenirs, whilst Mr. Zneldon is very good at writing a travel journal, so I'm very much looking forward to their adventures!
WHO, WHEN and WHERE
I am going to be taking part in an exciting exhibition in Brisbane - being hosted at the Brisbane City Library, from November 1st - all the way through November and December!!! There are going to be fabulous artists based in/around Brisbane exhibiting.
WHAT and HOW
From the character sketches, I began to identify colours, forms and textures that would bring the Zneldon's to life. Travel would be key to the concept, so I worked a little further, looking at ways to incorporate 'travel'... the usual, landmarks - where they had been on Earth, during their 'whilrwind' holiday, and their clothes and souvenirs. Depending on how much time I have, I'll incorporate what I can... so, how much time do I have??? Good question, well as of yesterday, I have a week.... So, some will be traditional illustration and some will be digital. So I'll be sure to take pictures as I go!
The final constraint I could see, was that the work would be presented in a cabinet, but I think I've dealt with that... so watch this space :)
What an active month! Design, illustration and writing!
I have joined another facebook group for the month of October - #inktober and it's purely ink drawn work... daily and international. So, like doodle day, it has been a wonderful opportunity to see the work of like-minded people, although it doesn't warrant as much comment as the doodle day group. The thing I really like about these groups is that other than the very rare occasion that someone is 'peddling' their work non-stop, you can just look at people's work, ask questions, and it feels very much a support network with no strings attached. The 'peddling' souls are to a large extent ignored.
On top of this, I've taken time out to join a writers group here in Brisbane - Write Links - and as with the other two, it's like minded people who's main goal is not to 'peddle' their popularity or wares, but to talk and share events, ideas and critique. This group meet up as well as have a facebook group - that's important really... there are 'faces' behind so many of these books, and it's such a learning experience, I feel pretty lucky by being invited to join.
I had my stories published in May in a local book, and so I re-read it, I'm certainly going to have to do some editing before I present any of my writings.
This is an active month of pushing through ideas, and learning. From next month, I want to take my doodles, and put more effort into finished pieces.
I also have set myself a personal challenge of character development through ages 2 -16... yes, this is a busy month!
I recently did an invitation for a great charity evening event hosted by Good Gourmet for challengers, and it got me thinking....
Wherever you see this lovely little stamp 'support charity' - I am working for a local or international charity because I love what I do and no payment would be expected.
Outside of charity support, I am no longer available to work for free, or for reduced rates. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to know more about my services.
