Take the Challenge!
So, this is September: challenges, more art, and more inspiration!
I recently joined a facebook group called Doodle Day, which is a daily word challenge and it's incredibly inspiring! Someone to bounce ideas off, check out talent across the globe and swap techniques....
It's quite a challenge to set yourself a goal of drawing each day - this was a challenge I set myself a year and a bit ago, when I decided to focus on illustration. Then I started teaching, started studying again, and the daily doodle become the 'every second day doodle'. I joined the Doodle Day group for motivation and the challenge, and so far it's working!
Along with this, there is a second challenge - the character challenge. I started it on Monday and so far have enjoyed doodling and researching with purpose. The challenge is to doodle characters by age group; so yesterday we drew faces for the 2-4 year old market. I have to do this research for my Diploma of Illustration, so I'm more than happy to get my hands dirty.
So far, I've had to simplify my faces quite a bit, brighten the colour and keep the linework a little 'less busy'. Peoples' blog sites have been great inspiration for this: Sarah Melling | No Time for Flashcards | Jacket Flap artists blogs | Will Terry as well as the illustrators on the Doodle Day challenge.
So - keep on researching the age groups in terms of colour, layout and techniques. I am looking forward to developing some of these characters further!
