So, part of my 'play' yesterday, was showing one of my creatures to a fellow artist, and him saying that my watercolour was just fine, but possibly had lost it's 'watercolourness'.... this was a bit of a turning point for me, because I have to agree, I have overworked the watercolours.
Instead of jumping straight onto the good paper - I tried on sketch paper, and then transferred across to the watercolour paper. I used the white of the paper better, and I didn't try to add weight where there shouldn't be weight... it DOES come back down to mass and volume!
These are subsequently, MUCH improved!
